The Campaign to Put Patients First is a nationwide initiative dedicated to mobilizing people to support effective and affordable health care – health care that meets their personal needs and goals.
The National Health Council is recruiting people with chronic diseases and disabilities, their family caregivers, and friends to make their voices heard.
The Campaign to Put Patients First draws the support of a varied and energetic group of partners. Patient advocacy groups, companies interested in health, and medical and health professional organizations are joining the Campaign to make sure that the collective voice of people with long-term diseases and disabilities is heard.

"A Patient Voice"
"A Patient Voice" is an online community with a unique approach to serve people with chronic diseases and disabilities and their family caregivers. The site is part of the WebMD Health Network and was created with the help of the NHC. It brings trusted experts together with people with chronic conditions to freely share information in both public forums and private, invitation-only settings.

Lotsa Helping Hands
Lotsa Helping Hands is an easy-to-use, web-based service that provides a simple, immediate way for friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to assist loved ones in need. The service includes a private group calendar, specifically designed for organizing helpers, where everyone can pitch in with meals delivery, rides, and other tasks necessary for life to run smoothly during times of medical crisis, end-of-life caring, or family caregiver exhaustion. It's also a place to keep these "circles of community" informed with status updates, photo galleries, message boards, and more. It’s free and private.

HealthResearchFunding.Org: NHC-NIH Collaborative Research Database
The National Health Council is working with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop a database that would make information on unfunded but worthwhile NIH research proposals available to the NHC’s patient advocacy group members and other potential funding sources of health research.
Once launched, the database could speed up the process of connecting funding organizations with investigators whose proposals have already been deemed worthy and important.
Considering the millions of dollars of meritorious health research not being funded, this project takes on enormous significance. It has the potential to positively affect the quality of life and longevity of countless individuals and to dramatically improve the health of this nation and the world by funding vital research that can go from bench to bedside.

Policy Initiatives
The National Health Council engages in policy initiatives designed to address health needs of people with chronic diseases and disabilities. All of the NHC’s policy programs are conducted using evidence-based research. The process typically includes a comprehensive literature review, focus groups, and message development on issues that are important to patients and family caregivers. The research findings help shape the NHC’s policy initiatives in these areas.
